The permanent planting to the rear of the Tropical Border includes six Ligustrum lucidum "Tricolor". In the centre of the Border is a shingle Summer House, an arbour where you can sit engulfed in the sense and scents of the Tropical Border.

The other permanent ingredients are Phormium tenax "Variegatum", Melianthus major, Phygelius capensis and Arundo donax "Variegata Superba". The glamour is provided by the bedding which is large and extravagant. Great use is made of dahlias, including the dark leafed Bishop of Llandaff and others. Exotic bedding is the key to this garden. argyranthemums, diascias, osteospermum, etc. Proceeding via the archway at the southern end of the Border through the Beech hedge guarded by a pair of planted pots you re-enter the Green Court.
