In this secluded garden we have planted sixteen tree ferns in a rigidly formal design that is quite original. At the western end of the garden is a monolithic seat where one may rest and enjoy the calming and restful atmosphere. The fronds of the tree ferns overhead almost touching each other resemble the gothic architecture of a medieval building. The planting beneath is calming too with hellebores and narcissi in whites and pinks in the early season to pinks of hardy begonia and the late blues of aconitum. Leaving this garden through the archway where we entered we turn to the right and enter another green court, this time containing sentinels of variegated, fastigiate yews. On our right we enter through an archway into the Rose Garden.
