The Kings Walk

Passing through a brick archway with the house on our left we come to the formal lawn on which we find ten sentinel obelisks of yew. This is the only part of the garden designed specifically to be viewed from the house and is known by us as the King’s Walk. You will see that this area proceeds from the house via a series of steps to the pavilion which apparently closes this vista. We instigated these changes in levels to add interest and variety to what otherwise is a largely flat or gently sloping site.

The balls on the gate piers we made ourselves, they were cast in a mould in two halves and with their sandwich of terracotta tiles atop their brick piers add to the grandeur of what is a relatively simple architectural design.
