East Ruston Old Vicarage
The Dutch Garden
Journeying around the house we pass an
ornamental greenhouse on our left. This is an
invaluable space for storing some of our tender
pot subjects during the dark months. In the
summer it is filled with decorative plants,
which may be flowers or vegetables, whatever
takes our fancy.
Standing with our backs to the house we
then view the Dutch Garden. Here we have
formal box edged flowerbeds, the corners of
which are punctuated with box balls and
obelisks. At the centre of these are two circular
beds containing clipped Ilex aquifolium‘Golden King’ in the form of three balls, one
above the other. This area is bedded out at least
twice a year and we endeavour to be exciting
and original in our choice of planting,
changing the planting scheme each year.
This area is also home to some stunning pot
planting especially during the summer months.
